Badhai Ho - A rebellious tale
We all have heard of arguments about how ladies get older after age 40. This film actually tells us they can give birth to babies at that age - until and unless it gets biologically impossible for her. Not that they lack emotional strength for that or anything.
This is a great satirical picture of the Indian Society. We are ashamed of our shortcomings because of what will people say. Let me get that straight for you. They'll say mean things. They'll hit on your insecurities. They will try to discourage you. They will not bear open thinking in their narrow minds.
Aayushman Khurana in a scene says, "Yes, aunty! I'm not a good person. I'm bad actually. I can not have the back of my parents when they need me most."
For context, this is a story in which his mother gets pregnant in her 40s. They find this embarrassing. And our guy Aayushman and his younger brother have a hard time accepting it. It gets emotional and messy. It entertains you too.
Aayushman actually says that to her potential mother-in-law after overhearing her conversation with her daughter that his parents and family are so "old" and "narrow" in their beliefs. She criticizes the to-be-born sibling-decision of his parents.
In a world that wants you to fail and tries hard to pull you down, it's our responsibility to back up our family and friends.
I call this a rebellious film because it shows no respect for traditional thinking that actually harms us as a society.
Its story is simple. Don't take it for its weakness though. It surprises you in ways you did not see coming. Acting in the movie is spot on. Characters are compelling and unpredictable.
I'd rate it 4/5.
You can watch it with your family and I'd honestly appreciate it if you do because it's the only way you can actually change things for good.
Finished tea and didn't realize?
Not your fault. ;)
